Draft EIR Public Comment Period Closes: What’s Next?

The City of Oakland closed public comment for the South Campus Plan on December 21, 2021. The City will now review and respond to each comment before releasing a Final Environmental Impact Report.

After public hearings at the Landmarks Preservation Commission and the Planning Commission, the City of Oakland closed public comment for its Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) on the proposed Head-Royce School Planned Unit Development (PUD) Project (known informally as the South Campus Plan) on December 21, 2021.

Now the City of Oakland will thoroughly review and respond to each comment before releasing a Final Environmental Impact Report (FEIR). We anticipate that sometime in 2022, the City will hold hearings to certify the FEIR and consider final project approval. If the project is approved, construction should commence shortly thereafter.

On behalf of Head-Royce faculty and staff, we want to thank all of the alumni, parents, neighbors, students, and community members who spoke in support of the South Campus Plan. The diverse chorus of voices clearly demonstrates the support for this project that we will need to bring the South Campus Plan over the finish line.

You can view an anticipated timeline for the project here.
